On this episode of Saturday Night Recovery Chat, Wes Arnett shares about his journey through recovery from alcohol use, celebrating 4 years sober in January. He reflects on the role alcohol played in his life, drinking culture in Wisconsin, and how life stressors contributed to worsening alcohol use, including grief/loss and other changes. He reflects on the circumstances and reasons that contributed to his decision to become sober. Wes also discusses some of his struggles with relapsing after a 2-year period of sobriety. He shares about how to find the recovery path that works best for you in your recovery. Wes further talks about themes that has supported his own recovery journey including doing recovery for yourself, accountability, self-care, and hobbies including yoga and hiking. He also describes a variety of recovery programs he has explored as well as the impact of Soberlink being instrumental to his recovery. He also talks about the importance of giving yourself some grace and asking for help in recovery. Wes now works to give back to his peers as a certified peer support specialist and recovery coach, by providing resources and support to other individuals on their path through recovery.
